NEW DICKY BEACH SKATE PARK IS OPEN
The much anticipated Dicky Beach Skatepark in Caloundra is open - ahead of schedule. Grinds on pool coping mixed over breaking waves is the new soundtrack for this legendary beach spot. We checked in on Sunday afternoon where skaters, roller skaters, families and friends brought the new skatepark to life.
BRISBANE 2032: Where will the OLYMPIC skatepark go?
It might have seemed surreal, but it did happen. You did just see skateboarding debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Millions of people worldwide watched on as skateboarders hit the Ariake Urban Sports Park to compete for medals in both street and park events.

This young man is part of the dynamic duo behind Paddo Wax, a thriving local skate wax business (get your hands on their products at the counter of Parliament Skateshop). MOVIE PREMIERE: Tall Poppy — a skater’s story
DIRECTOR CHAT: Poppy Starr Olsen, 21, has just been confirmed to be the first and only female park skateboarder to represent Australia in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. For the past 6 years, film director Justine Moyle has followed Poppy on her journey towards the Olympics. The documentary hits the big screens across Australia from 27 June. We chatted to director Justine about her work with Poppy and the making of the movie.
A DAY OUT WITH: THE BOARDSTORE GROM TEAM
TEAM TALKS: We hear it again and again. To join a skate team and eventually turn pro is the dream of most young skaters out there - but what exactly does it mean to “be on a team”? Join us as we learn more about the notorious world of being a team skater. First team up is the Boardstore Grom Team from the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

This 7-year-old Sunny Coast skater has street written all over him. What his friends would say about him? “LOVE” he states. Street & Love — need we say more? He rides a tiny little 7” board that allows him to pop BS 180s with ease. He hits ledges, rails and stairs until his pants are ripped! Beau Waterson is our new Slabzoo Shredder.
SHREDDER OF THE WEEK: ARISA TREW
This 10-year-old Gold Coast based skater girl rides the bowl with such power, confidence and flow that you just gotta stop and watch her. Her smile is pretty contagious too! You will often find her ripping at Pizzey skatepark with her girlfriends who all push each other to skate harder while goofing around and having the best time. Skating at the X-games is her big dream and here at Slabzoo we can definitely see that happen. Goofy footer Arisa Trew is our new Slabzoo Shredder.
‘THE BEST DAY EVER’: MUZZA MASHUP VIBED
Project Distribution turned Murarrie Skatepark into the hub of skateboarding for a day. A day packed with skateboarding, good vibes and free stuuuuuuuff. So much fun! BOWLZILLA: 16 & UNDER RECAP, RESULTS, PHOTOS
BOWLZILLA: Jake Thatcher is ASF Australian Park Skating Champion 2021 in the 16 & under division. He won BOWLZILLA 2021 in front of Freddie Arnold and Logan Graff. The level of bowl skateboarding by these young rippers was definitely a national championship worthy. Find photos, recap and results below.

BOWLZILLA: It’s the official ASF Australian Park Skating Championship - but Bowlzilla is so much more than a skateboard competition. The crowd is wild & loud, the atmosphere is electric and the vibe is nothing but pure (skateboard) love. We spent the entire day by the bowl to capture a moment or two…hundred. BOWLZILLA: GIVE IT UP FOR TORA WALDREN ON THE MIC
BOWLZILLA. One day to go. It’s been a loooooong year but tomorrow is the big day. The vibe around the notorious bowl is buzzing with excitement and Bowlzilla 2021 is set to be a fun, positive experience to competitors and spectators alike. Tora Waldren will be on the mic to guide, support and hype us all through the day - so before she looses her voice we hit her up for a quick chat about all things BOWLZILLA.
BOWLZILLA: THE GIRLS KICKED IT OFF!
BOWLZILLA. The wicked week of skateboarding on the Gold Coast was kicked off with an all-girls Learn to ride Clinic hosted by Yeah Girl in Tugun Skatepark on Tuesday 8 March 2021. Heaps of girls turned up and had an awesome time with the crew from Yeah Girl and special guest Indiana Barnard. See photos and feel the vibe here.
BOWLZILLA: ‘THE CROWD IS WILD & LOUD’
13-year old Freddie Arnold is one of 8 skaters on the Jezebel skateboard team. He came 2nd in last year’s Bowlzilla Gold Coast and this year he’s back to compete in the electric atmosphere at the Elanora Bowl. We hit him and his board sponsor Mick from Jezebel up for a chat about the comp everyone is talking about.
