‘THE BEST DAY EVER’: MUZZA MASHUP VIBED
Project Distribution turned Murarrie Skatepark into the hub of skateboarding for a day on Sunday 28 March 2021. A day packed with skateboarding, good vibes and free stuuuuuuuff. So much fun! Not only did the Brisbane skateboard community show up in numbers, skateboarders and friends came from all over South-East Queensland to join in on the good times.
Pavement Skateboard Coaching put on free skateboard lessons for beginners to start the day off right. The lessons were all booked out and the kids loved it almost as much as the keen coaches.
Once the beginners had had a good taste of the skateboarding bug, the day of comps and shenanigans really began.
The comp format was as crowd friendly as can be, with 2-4 skaters in each 2 minute (give and take) heat. It’s impressive just how much flow and tricks the skaters managed to get into their runs.
The 10 & Unders were the first to take over Murarrie Skatepark followed by 16 & Unders and the Girls Division.
A few names to mention from the morning comps were Haylie Powell, Haylie Powell and Haylie Powell (welcome back to the comps girl, we’ve missed you). And, of course, everyone else who gave it all they had - and loved every minute of it. The groms and the girls are coming, that’s for sure.
After a well deserved break to the judges and speaker - Ben Ventress, Mr. Project Distribution himself - and a free sausage sizzle to the crowd, it was time to shine for the adult skaters.
The Bowl Jam was a true mayhem and the Opens took it to another level.
The judges did not have an easy job finding the winners but Mike Lawry, Joel McIlroy, and young-gun Jack Lewis took the top three spots and went home cashed up and happy as.
It really was the perfect end to a fun and reassuring day for everyone - skateboarding is thriving and everything’s gonna be alright. Even if we are back in lockdown here in Brisbane now…
But hey, check out the photos below and reminisce about those good old days (three days ago) when we could hang out with old and new friends in Murarrie Skatepark all day long. Sooner than later we’ll do it all again!
