EVENT: 20 FOR THE GIRLS
20 For The Girls is a girls-only workshop especially designed to welcome more girls into the skateboarding community and connect the ones already shredding it up.
SHREDDER OF THE WEEK: Sailor Allen
You can find this committed and fearless 7-year old skater girl carving bowls all over the Brisbane and Gold Coast skateparks. She dreams about competing in Bowlzilla and maybe be a coach one day. She is practising backside airs in the bowl at the moment and we’re sure she’s got this! Sailor Allen is our shredder of week!
SHREDDER OF THE WEEK: MAX HANSON
There’s more to this little goofball than meets the eye. At only 6 years old Max is already an experienced little skater with a bunch of tricks in his bag - and you can find him ripping all the SEQ skateparks with his brother and skateboard partner in crime, Jacob. His instagram name might suggest otherwise, but this kid is not sketchy at all - Max is shredder of the week!
PADDO WAX: 13 - YEARS OLD AND RUNNING A SKATE BIZ
They are business owners, they are entrepreneurs, they are dedicated skaters – and they are only 13 years old. Zac Riley & Liam Wynearls runs Paddo Wax, a Brisbane based skate wax company, and they have big plans for the future.
How to choose your first skateboard
Let us help you choose the right skateboard from the start.
SHREDDER OF THE WEEK: EVIE SUE WILSON
She’s our first featured micro grom, she’s only 4 years old and she already drops in with pro skater Nick Law. When she shreds her favourite skatepark Pizzey it’s all about the fun times. That’s when she doesn’t fall and hurts her butt! Her friends say she’s super brave and we totally agree - Evie is shredder of the week!
SHREDDER OF THE WEEK: Melan Love
This kid is WILD! His friends would describe him as an energizer battery, a bit crazy, but also generous and caring. He runs on vegan energy and listens to hardcore music (check out his favorite song below). And if you’re seeing a kid slamming to the concrete and bouncing back up time after time, it’s probably him. Melan Love is shredder of the week!
SHREDDER OF THE WEEK: CHIHIRO YOUNG
Her friends would describe her as weird, crazy and full of energy. If you see a skater doing handstands on her board, it might be Chihiro. She loves making new friends through skateboarding and learning new tricks. Currently trying to nail those tricky blunt to fakies! Chihiro Young is shredder of the week!
SHREDDER OF THE WEEK: Louie Daiguchi
When Louie arrives at the skateparks the older skaters stop and look. And for a reason. He is an absolute pleasure to watch and his bag of tricks is way beyond his age. Speaking of age, he’s only 6 years old and has only skated since he was 5. His progression is insane - and he spreads the best positive energy wherever he goes.
SHREDDER OF THE WEEK: Mikayla Sheppard
This Brisbane girl started skateboarding only 6 months ago and she is as hooked as ever. Not even a broken arm can stop her. Tough as! (No words about the scooterkid who snaked her, tho…) Get to know Mikayla a bit better and remember to give her a high five when you see her practicing those tricky kickflips around the Brissy skateparks.
SHREDDER OF THE WEEK: Tristan Moffat
He came out of nowhere and finished 6th. at his first ever appearance at Rumble On the Reef last month. His progression has been second to none lately and he is only just getting started. Tristan Moffat is this week’s shredder!
SHREDDER OF THE WEEK: NIXON COOK
He flips a board with impressive ease and his his rail game is second to none. 9-year old Nixon Cook started skating at the age of 3 and loves hitting his local park Cotto with friends and family. Nixon Cook is this week’s Slabzoo Shredder.
SHREDDER OF THE WEEK: BILLY SHOBBROOK
Here’s a girl to look out for. She’s only 5 years old but is already steezier than most. The skatepark is her favourite playground and she loves dropping in on big ramps. Billy is this week’s Slabzoo shredder!
Shredder of the week: Charlie Boldt
If you’ve been to Paddington Skatepark lately, you’ve probably seen Charlie shredding it up. He is 11 years old, a Paddo local and this week’s Slabzoo shredder!
MEET A LOCAL LEGEND: NIXEN OSBORNE
INTERVIEW: 19-year-old Nixen Osborne is part of a new generation of potential pro’s and recently joined the international team of Creature fiends. We hit him up for a chat about the Brisbane skate scene, all things skate culture, and his approach to [maybe] going pro.
