A proper pro-level street skatepark in SEQ

The dazzling $5.6 million dollars, 3,000 square meter extension (the size of seven basketball courts) can house up to 10,000 spectators and has obstacles like rails, stairs, hubbas build to challenge even pro skaters and give them an arena to suit their level, not seen before in Queensland.

Ambitiously, Pizzey’s upgrade will attract world-class championships and professional skaters from all over the world, be a training ground for local talent, and inspire new skaters to step on the board for the first time, knowing they have the best possible skatepark to progress in.

The Grand Opening event was presented by Division 12 Councillor Pauline Young, the City of Gold Coast, and Active & Healthy Gold Coast and the extension is part of a huge master plan upgrade to the Pizzey park precinct.

Waiting to hit that fresh crete.

Smiles all around

What a day for the skateboard community. The stoke to get a skatepark of this standard was real. Still is. And prominent names like Chloe Covell, Rome Collier, Nixen Osborne, Aimee Massie, Jackson Pilz, Hailey Powell, Dani Campbell, showed up to have fun and help open Pizzey Street Skatepark with a bang!

Bowl Comp

While the new street upgrade was the main attraction, the good ol’ peanut bowl stole a bit of the attention when the guys from Rock’n’Slide Skateboarding hosted a 16 & Under comp in the bowl.

To name a few, CJ Hawker, Heili Sirvio, Noa Barnes, Coco Crafter and Louie Daiguchi ripped and didn’t make it easy on the Rock’n’Slide guys, who even brought in a special guest judge to help out; the legend Jackson Pilz.

Congrats to the winners, local rippers Jake Thatcher and Arisa Trew and everyone else who had a ball in the bowl.
