Big Things Are Happening in NSW | Skate Clubs and Talent Programs on the Rise

The skateboard community in North and Mid-North New South Wales is booming but so far it’s been lacking organized clubs and competitions. Now, things are changing as two new skate clubs have been created in NSW; Mid North Coast Skateboard Club and Northern Rivers Skateboard Club. As a member of either club, which is now affiliated with Skate NSW and North Coast Academy of Sport, you can be picked for a talent skate program.

Backed by all local coaches and skate shops, there is consensus to move forward together and grow and support the dedicated skateboard community in the area.

Initiated by passion, the clubs are off to a great start and the people behind the scenes are committed.

The clubs are using a similar format to what a Surfing Club would use - running monthly skate comps for the locals in a fun and friendly grassroots environment.

Mid North Coast (MNCSC) has been established for about a year and based in Yamba and is hosting community events, activities and competitions in the region of the Mid North Coast while Northern Rivers Skate Club (NRSC) covers Evans Head to Tweed.

Would you like to join the clubs?

NRSC is now taking registrations on Liveheats and you can join MNCSC here.

You can still register up until the first club round and also join in later in the year. First round is going to be held in Ballina on the 30th of April.

As a member of either club, which is now affiliated with Skate NSW and North Coast Academy of Sport, you can be picked for a talent skate program.

Join the NCAS talent program

North Coast Academy of Sport (NCAS) is one of the eleven regional academies in NSW. Supported by the NSW Government – Office of Sport and Southern Cross University, NCAS has as our core business the identification and development of talented junior athletes on the North Coast of NSW. The North Coast Academy of Sport Skate Program plays a vital role in identifying, monitoring, and developing the skills of young Skate athletes. Members of the squad will be exposed to expert coaching services, and sport specific education in areas such as strength and conditioning, nutrition, sport psychology, sport media & communications. In partnership with the Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers Skate Clubs, we have worked to develop the NCAS Skate Program to align with the Northern NSW Skate Competition Pathway. In delivering this program, we hope that it will assist our athletes towards the next step in their sporting careers. The program will be conducted from April to September 2023.
