FAIRGO SKATE FEST 2023: RECAP, RESULTS & PHOTOS
Truckstop once again pulled off an extravaganza of skateboarding madness when Fairgo Skate Fest 2023 sent Ballina Skatepark to the future.
Some of Australia’s best comp skaters joined the battle for the cash money and the tricks were as unreal as the sense of true community was real.
Being one of the longest running skateboard competitions in the country Fair Go is still true to its core and has that special “skateboarding is one big happy family”-feel to it. It sure was a weekend to remember and luckily Slabzoo was there to cover the event and take part of the fun.
Check out our 5 galleries + recaps below: THE PEOPLE, OPEN BOWL JAM, OPENS, JUNIOR PARK & JUNIOR BOWL. And of course: THE RESULTS & WINNERS!
Tony Chavez kicked off the weekend by hyping up the youngest skaters and passed on the sense of fun and togetherness that is the Fairgo spirit. Joined by Tora on the mic and a heavy judging panel, the audience and skaters were in good hands!
With a $3000 guaranteed prize for 1st place women and mens it was be a fierce battle for the cash! A battle that Rome Collyer & Felicity Turner won along with the trophy and glory!

THE PEOPLE!
Thanks to the audience, the OG skaters, groms, MC, Judges, organisers, parents and filmers that made this weekend of skating pretty rad. Good looking bunch too if you ask us! [Click to enlarge photos]
OPEN BOWL JAM: TRICKS FOR CA$H
With a young but fierce field of bowl skaters in the Opens division the audience was in for a spectacular show. New tricks were awarded with sweet cash and we saw an array of tricks, incl. heel flip indys, kickflip indys, 540s and rocket high airs.
Young prodigy’s Louie Daiguchi, Zen Dickson and Taj Wolfenden skated well above their age (and coping) making it a night to remember.
Zahra Jonhnsons battle for the kickflip Indy got everyone hyped on skateboarding and the prize pool went up as people threw in more bucks. When she landed the crowd went wild! (Check our highlights to see her land it!). [Click to enlarge photos]
OPEN MEN & WOMENS
The open heats were packed with talent from all over Australia in 2-minute jams. So much good skating to watch for a hyped audience. Justin Schmidt impressed with his frontside nose grind down the big rail, Rome Collyer pleased the eyes with his buttery yet powerful style, and local Shaun Boucher got the sweet love from the crowd.
The women’s heat was packed with som of Australia’s Olympic hopes - Haylie Powell, Felicity Turner and Zahra Johns. Local crew Ella Ledingham, Izy Duncombeas and Kayla proved that Ballina is not messing about!
In the end, Rome Collyer & Felicity Turner took out the trophys, cash and glory at the opens division at Fairgo 2023. [Click to enlarge photos]
JUNIOR PARK
The youngest competitors turned it up at Fairgo as the battled it out in the semis and later finals. We saw a good mix of transition and street skating in the whole park area during the 2 minute jams. The future sure is looking bright. [Click to enlarge photos]
JUNIOR BOWL
With a 10 minute jam format for each division the juniors skated their hearts out. With hype queen Tora Waldren on the mic, a keen judging panel and kids going all ballistic to get their tricks, a full day of skating came to an end in style. [Click to enlarge photos]
