MACKAY BOUND: Jack Lewis

RUMBLE ON THE REEF: The count down is almost over, in a couple of days Rumble on the Reef 2021 kicks off!

Brisbane skaters Jack Lewis and Tristan Moffat are both heading to Mackay to compete in Rumble and we met with them at Paddo Skatepark in Brisbane to have a little chat about their expectations and hear more about the amazing Rumble vibe.

First in line was young gun, Tristan Moffat. Next up is Jack Lewis, another of Brisbane’s new gen skaters with a promising future ahead of him. Jack has been a solid part of the Australian skateboard competition community for years. He often sneaks onto the podium in either 16s or Opens - Earlier this year he finished 7th in Australian Skateboarding League 2021 Street Championship in Melbourne in the Opens division. Pretty decent for a 14-year-old dude and he’ll no doubt show us what he’s got in Mackay next week.

Hi Jack, always good to see you. Now, let’s get straight to it. How many times have you competed in Rumble before?

Yeah, so I have competed in rumble three times, this year will be my fourth time.

Basically a Rumble pro. Okay, so this year, which division are you going in?

I am going into the 16s. Was considering going in the Opens but think 16s will be good.

Rumble is only a couple of days away. What do you do to prepare? Do you train specifically for the comp or anything else?

I skate heaps and I especially try to skate similar rails to the ones in Sugar Bowl.

Sounds good, what are you looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to hanging out with all the people who are there. Such a good vibe and everyone’s going this year.

What makes Rumble special compared to the usual comps you go in?

The place that I’m staying in is right next to a water park so we go there and have fun when we’re not skating.

Tell us a bit about your travel plans?

My dad and my twin sister is travelling with me. We drove up to Agnes Waters and stayed there for a night with Jay and Zane Hetherington and am staying with them on the way back as well.

Okay, sounds like a solid plan, is there anything else we should know about Rumble?

It’s just really fun. So much more than just skateboarding.

Amazing!

Now, do you have any advice to skaters going in the comps for the first time?

Just have fun and do what you want.

Thanks Jack, we can’t wait to see you shred in Mackay.
