Burleigh Keg Jump 2022: Tunes Thumping, Beers Pumping, Skaters Jumping

International Go Skate Day on the Gold Coast was celebrated at the Burleigh Brewing Company, with their now annual Invitational Keg Jump on Friday 24 June 2022.

The skaters were competing for the prize money totalling $9,000, the auspicious Golden Growler Trophy and the chance to have their name added to the breweries latest craft beer creation. It’s no secret that the Golden Growler Trophy was taken out once again by Dani Campbell who cleared and landed a massive 14 kegs in front of sell-out crowd of 700.

Among those skaters invited to compete this year were previous winners, Sam Atkin, Dani Campbell and Nixon Osbourne who all hold records of clearing and landing 11 kegs. This year we saw some strong women, Tori Waldren and Aimee Massie, join in too which was ace.

Dain Bosworth brought his camera to shoot for Slabzoo and Jules Anathema Swan his pen to write this little recap for you all!

The event this year started off with judges awarding cash prizes to skaters who impressed them with rail, and ramp tricks, and tricks while jumping a pallet of Burleigh Brewing Co beer. Second place going to Nixon Osbourne who earlier in the evening thrilled the crowd with the now infamous “Beni Hanna” trick while flying effortlessly over a beer loaded pallet.

An honourable must go to Sam Atkins who after bowing out in an earlier round, once again set his board rolling in a non competitive attempt to conquer the 14 kegs, and was rewarded with a flawless flight, landing to the sound of the onlooking crowd cheering him on.

Huge thank you to the Burleigh Brewing Company for organising yet another night of skateboarding thrills and entertainment.

GO SKATEBOARDING DAY FACTS: The origin of Go Skate Day dates back to 2004, in the USA, when the International Association of Skateboard Companies put their boards on the ground, and with a kick push seized the opportunity to promote and make skateboarding more accessible on a global scale.
