SCHEMA Collective brought the vibes to Coorparoo Skatepark

LOCAL EVENT: Art workshops, LIVE music and skateboard demos set the vibe at Coorparoo Skatepark on Saturday 5 February as SCHEMA Collective hosted a day for everyone to come together to celebrate the creative community in South East Queensland.

SCHEMA Collective is an alliance of musicians and artists that support their scenes, their community, and each other - and music is at the core of the events.

“SCHEMA is a not for profit organisation that is dedicated to supporting and advocating for the South East Queensland music community,” SCHEMA co-founder Rashid explains..

Yet, skateboarding seems to fit quite wholly into the mix and Rashid agrees: “Many of us grew up skating/bmx’ing and combining our love of live music and skating is for us the perfect combination.”

On Saturday skaters of all ages hit the skatepark to the tunes of LIVE music from several different bands all afternoon - and between sets always keen speaker Antony Herrera picked up the mic to hype the skate demos put on by local and Gold Coast skaters.

Besides music and skateboarding, art is inherent at the SCHEMA events.

“We strive to create an inclusive environment that showcases the breadth of talent that exists within this community,” Rashid says and continues.

We see these outlets as having great benefits to mental health both as individualistic pursuits and as a way to connect and have shared experiences with others.”

And it makes a lot of sense when you experience the vibe when skaters hit the concrete, while bands play music and people visit the art workshop corner - where aspiring artists of all ages can apply their artsy talents and proudly walk away with home made badges, happy smiles and what-not.
