Postcard from Dubai: Dani Campbell
Dani Campbell had a sick trip to Dubai for the World Championships and Olympic Qualifiers. Dani is part of Songline Skateboarding, Australia’s first Indigenous skate team. They spread positivity and love through skateboarding to communities all over while keeping the culture strong. What a legend. While not hyping kids up to skate, or competing he is often out hitting street spots with his technical wizardry— also in Dubai!
He wasn’t super happy with his runs, but still had such a sick trip and experience. We checked in with him (sorry, for the delayed postcard. There’s a long way from Dubai to Australia :-)
Hi Dani! How are you doing in Dubai?
Dubai has been soo crazy soo far!
The first 2 days were the most interesting cause I snapped my axle halfway through practice and then Tommy gave me one of his sets to then snap them the next day in practice too haha
How was the atmosphere among the skaters? And the nerves?
So before the comp was pretty intense trying to get used to my board the whole time.I handled it the best I could with what I had but I got pretty nervous the morning of qualifying cause I was still struggling to feel good on my board.
Any sight seeing highlights?
The sights are insane!
I went to see the berj Khalifa and the aquarium with mami, poppy and T.
The highlight of all sights was the street spots I went to with Matthew markland, everything is perfect and soo many untouched places to skate!
What’s the best and worst food you’ve had in Dubai?
Haven't had the worst food yet but we've all been hooked on the mango juices across the road haha
How much skating were you getting up to doing these days before the comp?
I definitely have been enjoying most of the time by myself or with Matt (Markland, NZ), it's somehow impossible to contact people who are constantly on their phones but anyway haha
What did you do to help prepare - mentally & physically?
The support team has been great! Will, kat and Ellie have been there helping everyone stay in check making sure everything is all good, much love to them!
